Percentages

Percents are parts of a hundred. Just like how decimals and fractions are made of parts. That's why we can convert percent into decimals and fractions. But, more on that later. For let's focus on what a percentage is and how we use.

For example, let's say you have business, such as a restaurant. You want to find out how tax you have to add to the price of food you sell. You put the tax at 50%. That means you've added $0.50 cents to each food product. We know that we've added $0.50 because that is equal to 50%.

In Conclusion

Percentage of a Number

To find the percentage in a number, find out the number of percent that you're going to use. For example, you can do this:

1/2 = 50% of 24 = 12

1/2 x 24 = 12/1 = 24/2 = 12

 Multiply                   simplify

When we have 2% of 20, we mean 2% x 20. So were really multiplying by 2%.

Number = Amount | Percent = Fraction

Steps to change Percent into a Fraction/Decimal

Step 1

Write the number as a numerator.

30% = 30/

Step 2

Change the percent sign to 100 and write it as your denominators

30%  = 30/100

Step 3

Simpllfy if possible.

30/100  = 3/10

Step 4 - Decimals

Change to decimal to hundreths.

3/10 = 30/100 = 30%% = 0.30 = 0.3

Finding Percentage of a Number

To find the percentage in a number, find out the number of percent that you're going to use. For example, you can do this:

1/2 x 24 = 12/1 = 24/2 = 12

 Multiply                   simplify

It's basically the fraction, percent, or decimal multiplied by the whole.  When we have 2% of 20, we mean 2% x 20. So were really multiplying by 2%.
